Things to Do in Greenville for Seniors

Some people say, “You are who your friends are,” but we’d argue that your surroundings play an even bigger role in your identity and the way you spend your time. When looking for a place to live out some of the best years of your life, chose an affordable city with leisure activities galore. Consider retiring in the beautiful city of Greenville, South Carolina. You’ll find a surprising amount of things to do in Greenville for seniors, including restaurants, parks, and artsy activities.

Things to Do in Greenville for Seniors

Visit Falls Park

It’s rumored that you can find the best view of the city from Falls Park, but that’s not the only reason to visit. Start your day with a cup of coffee from Spill the Beans, a local coffee shop and creamery. Stay and take in the gorgeous atmosphere of this downtown shop. Or, order a to-go cup of coffee and walk along the nearby trail that borders the Reedy River and catch views of the rolling foothills. Make sure to walk across Liberty Bridge, a 345-foot-long suspension bridge. Next, head back into downtown to meet local shop owners and find unique products.

Submerge Yourself in the Arts

Greenville is a vibrant, artistic community – not your run-of-the-mill retirement city. If you’re in the mood to talk to creative people and see what the local artists have been creating, stop by the Village of West Greenville. Even the buildings themselves are works of art; muralists have adorned several of the buildings with their creations. You’ll find local art galleries around every corner. The perfect time to visit is on the first Friday evening of each month, also known as First Fridays. By the end of your visit, you will understand the personality of this charming city.

Take a Culinary Tour

You don’t have to watch Chef’s Table on Netflix to watch culinary talent at work. Rather than drooling over food you can’t eat through the TV screen, step outside and experience delicious dishes for yourself. John Nolan, a Greenville historian and author, is locally famous for his history tours, and he’s recently designed the At the Chef’s Table Culinary Tour. On the trip, a driver will escort you around town on a charter van, and you’ll wine and dine with local chefs. The tour’s itinerary includes five stops complete with demonstrations, wine and beer tastings, cocktails, signature dishes, and even dessert.

Visit the Theatre

A night at the theatre can transport you to a different time and place without time travel or expensive plane tickets. Greenville has three main theaters at which you can catch live shows: The Warehouse Theatre, Centre Stage, and the Greenville Little Theatre. So whether you’re craving a comedic musical or a serious and moving show, you have options. If you want to enter the world of theatre for yourself, you can even take applied theatre classes at The Warehouse Theatre.
